QimmiQ: The illuminated Retractable Dog Leash

In Design
Funding on Indiegogo

Rewards Finland

A retractable dog leash illuminated by optical fibers and LED lighting technology. Stay visible. -  In 2012, a cyclist collided with an unseen retractable dog leash and fell. He sustained a fractured skull. The cyclist was unable to work for seven weeks and required neuro-psychotherapeutic rehabilitation. A settlement of EU 65,000 was paid to provide relief for his medical bills. This incident happened on a normal sidewalk and could have been avoided if the cyclist had seen the leash beforehand. This incident highlights how dangerous a long retractable leash may be for cyclists
