Recognizing the contributions of African slaves through art. - Despite a life of labor, ex slave Wes Brady died a poor man.A farmer all of his life, he continued to work the fields near Marshall, Texas long after emancipation. He died earning an $11-a-month federal pension.  The notion that hard work equals wealth or comfort went unrealized for Brady and millions of African slaves.
