Saying goodbye to 8%+ fees to make my own webstore. - Why Leave EtsyLast year, Etsy's fees changed drastically. They were doubled from 2.5% to 5%, in addition to a brand new 5% fee on shipping charges.  Etsy had never taken a chunk out of shipping before. Why would they? The seller doesn't get the shipping money, they use it to purchase postage. Their excuse was that they want to discourage sellers from avoiding fees by charging minimally on the item, and then charging the actual cost in shipping (example: charging $5 for an item and then $15
