What can happen on public transportation? A lot. At the end of Zak’s adventure, he becomes more socially aware and more appreciative of the diverse community he lives in.
A few years ago, Hectic Digital's Creative Directors Geoff Hecht and Clayton Douglas had a conversation trading stories of their experiences riding the bus. This rekindled old memories and inspired the creation of Metro6. While it can be a mixed bag of experiences—some good, some bad, and some funny—riding the bus changes you. It desensitizes and toughens you up. It exposes you to new people and new points of views.
The community within public transportation can be like a microcosm for the entire human race. If you've ever been on a bus or a train in a major city like SF, NY, Chicago, Boston, etc you know what we mean. There are so many different people. Different in race, age, gender, sexuality, profession, and in many other ways.
Here are a few anecdotes from our own experiences:
--Passenger asks woman to not smoke on the bus. Woman puts out her cigarette, only to pull out a crack pipe and smoke it instead.
--Bus filled with entire classroom going on a field trip. Though no other passengers could fit, the kids seemed to have a great time.
--Drunk woman vomits in open seat next to man. Man cannot move from seat because bus is so packed.
--People celebrating New Years in peace and harmony.
A bus ride might be short, but the characters you might encounter are nonetheless representative of the diverse society we live in. That’s why everyone at Hectic agreed how funny and interesting it would be to make an animation about the adventures of riding public transportation.
